2004 Genesis 400 Targa | Twin Volvo Diesels | Bow Thruster | Generator | Extensive Service History

A rare opportunity to secure a highly specified Genesis 400 Targa, built in New Zealand, with low engine hours, excellent accommodation and a comprehensive maintenance history.

Built by Genesis Marine in Auckland, this 12.6 metre sports cruiser was ordered from new with a substantial list of factory options and has continued to receive significant mechanical, electrical and cosmetic upgrades throughout its life. With twin Volvo Penta KAMD300 diesel engines, shaft driven V drives, bow thruster, 8kVA generator, air conditioning and a spacious six berth layout, she is exceptionally well suited to extended cruising, entertaining and weekends away.

Power comes from twin Volvo Penta KAMD300 six cylinder turbocharged and supercharged diesel engines producing 285hp each. Current engine hours are approximately 770 and 780 hours, giving a combined 570hp through Volvo hydraulic V drive gearboxes and four blade bronze propellers. The vessel is capable of approximately 27 knots at the top end, with an owner reported cruise speed of around 25 knots.

Importantly, this Genesis comes with substantial supporting maintenance documentation. Recent works include new exhaust hoses and GRP exhaust waterlocks in 2026, complete replacement of the house, engine start and generator start battery banks in 2025, and extensive fuel system, injector, turbocharger and cooling system work completed during 2023. Regular slipping, antifouling, PropSpeed and detailing have also been documented.

A June 2026 marine survey described the vessel as a well built New Zealand cruiser with very low hours for its age, noting that she was in good condition and had been well maintained.

The cockpit is one of the standout features of the Genesis 400. It offers excellent space for entertaining, with a teak laid floor, central island bench, built in electric BBQ, hot and cold water, generous seating, transom access and large engine room hatches. Wide side decks provide easy access to the foredeck, where stainless steel rails and a substantial anchoring system make handling straightforward.

Inside, the enclosed saloon provides a comfortable living area in all weather conditions, with air conditioning, a sliding roof, generous natural light and an integrated lower helm. Accommodation is configured for up to six, with a forward V berth cabin, separate side cabin and additional saloon accommodation.

The galley is well equipped for extended stays aboard and includes a Vitrifrigo refrigerator, eutectic freezer, two burner induction cooktop, convection microwave, sink and ample storage. A separate bathroom includes a Jabsco electric toilet, shower, hand basin and approximately 90 litre holding tank with deck and overboard pump out arrangements.

Electrical independence is another strong point. The vessel is equipped with an 8kVA Lombardini diesel generator, Victron inverter and charger, solar charging, shore power and a battery system renewed in 2025. Fresh water capacity is approximately 400 litres and fuel capacity is approximately 1,000 litres across twin tanks.

Navigation equipment has also been substantially upgraded from the original specification. A major Simrad electronics installation was completed in 2019 and includes chartplotter and GPS, radar, depth sounder and hydraulic autopilot, complemented by Raymarine DSC VHF, remote spotlight and comprehensive engine instrumentation.

Further equipment includes:
